Now Featuring

Us on the Reece's Rainbow blog! Reece's Rainbow's own Lu, over at Poppies Blooming, does a series called "Meet the Families" for all the Reece's Rainbow families in the process of adopting and it was our turn. So, if you've wondered why we're adopting or how we decided on Liza there are a few answers there. It sure was nice to see my Girl's picture front and center!

The button below can be grabbed and added to your blog if you'd like to help spread the word and get the families of Reece's Rainbow noticed. If you click on it you can find the code at the Reece's Rainbow blog.

Even more exciting than that, is this: Reece's Rainbow is featured in PEOPLE magazine! I think that is so cool. Imagine the numbers of people who will be reading about this ministry in the next few days. You'll find them in the "Heroes Among Us" section of the issue pictured below.

Weird Fact Wednesday: The Cowardly Version......Or Not

Ok, yes, I know - this blog is B.O.R.I.N.G. I have been in a funk the last couple months and just haven't had much to say. So, I'm gonna try a new weekly blog post called Weird Fact Wednesday, in which I will be sharing weird facts about "yours truly" on Wednesdays. Cause you always wanted to know all those weird facts about me, right? Well, even if you don't someday my kids or grandkids will. Won't they? And it'll all be right here for them to find. Until then, enjoy week one of Weird Fact Wednesday.

Ever since I was a little girl I have had this thing for Kenny Rogers. That's not exactly the weird fact. My utmost favorite song by him was "Coward of the County", I really don't know why cause I just listened to it again for the first time in a while and went.... "OOO KAY!" And that's not ok in a good way.

So, yeah, weird fact about me: I used to really LOVE a song about a dude who let's people walk all over him and then one day snaps. Umm, maybe there's a lesson in there somewhere? That's probably a whole 'nother post for a whole 'nother day!

(And Kenny, if you're reading this, I still love you! But that song needs a little help. Just sayin....)

Need Some Decorating Help

*Facebook Friends won't be able to see the pics, you'd have to go to www.journeytoapromise.blogspot.com*

So, what do you see here? A hideous choice of paired colors? Or, two colors that might actually have potential together? Hubby and I set out to paint the kitchen a color that would go with the cabinets that came with the house. Cause even the thought of painting the cabinets gives me a headache and a slight panic attack, and replacing them costs a heck of a lot more than a few gallons of paint.

Anyway, this is the color we finally decided on, and a professional approved, but now that I've painted one wall I don't think I like the two of them together and don't want to finish the kitchen. (Yes, this means my kitchen now has the bottom half of one wall painted.) BUT, yes there's a butt but, Rick and the boys LIKE the color and want me to finish painting. UGH!

So, if there are any decorator types who would be willing to advise I would greatly appreciate it. I think the pics are pretty true to color. Oh, and ignore the funky orange countertop. That's gonna go.... "someday". I was hoping for a European Country look with my color choices, but I think it might be too much like "Clowns Escape and Paint your Kitchen" No offense to any of you clowns out there! ;o)

My Girl's Got Bows

***Normally I don't advertise for people's products on my blog (and I didn't get a discount for doing this) but they were so nice, even helped me decide what kind of clip to use when I was clueless. Then when I explained that they were for my soon to be adopted little girl I found out that their family had adopted from the foster care system. So I had to share. ***

This one is my favorite!!!

Um, yes, hairbows. Ever since we committed to adopting Liza I have had this overwhelming urge to buy her hairbows. And I knew EXACTLY where I was going to get them from.

I don't remember how I found Kell's Bows but it was probably one of the hair blogs that I started reading a while back. Anyway, I knew I had to get her some bows so I went straight to Kell's and ordered the ones I had already had my eye on for a while. (I know, I need help. Just my luck Liza will HATE girly anything.)

Aren't they the cutest things! Let me tell you, these pictures do not do them justice. They really are beautiful. I was showing them off to everybody when they came, you should have seen me running around all excited about a few hairbows. teehee. But, you know, they are a small representation of the reality of my baby girl who I hope will be here shortly. So, I can get excited about hairbows if I want. I have given myself permission.

Things I Ponder: 4-11-09

  • Is it really ok for business if the local florist has plastic flowers "growing" out of the pots in front of the store?
  • Should the mom who always burns the bread be allowed to try making Bakerella's Cake Pops?

Since tomorrow is Easter and we're not big on making holidays into an excuse to overload our kids on sugar, but I do want it to be a little special for them, I am going to try to make Bakerella's Easter Egg Cake Pop's. They are sooo cute! I really hope they turn out, but notice the emphasis on the try above? Yeah, there's a reason for that. Noah has already told me he's not sure how this is gonna turn out.....I'll have to lick his or something. (Just kiddin' Bosey!)

As for the florist shop pondering. Well, I just had to get that out of my system. There really is a local florist shop with two urns of fake flowers outside their door and I just can't help but wonder who orders flowers from a florist who has to grow fake flowers in their urns.

Tag, I'm it!

Tami tagged me the other day and I was so excited because I have wanted to be tagged for this post. Of course, ever since then my mind has been blank. That's the way it goes in my world.

But, I am going to just get it out here. My kids will tell you, I'm a little different. I like me that way, though.
So, here goes.

1. I was technically a single mom for about 8 years. I stood by a man who was in and out of jail and treated me like crap. It wasn't until I realized that I didn't want my kids to grow up to be like him that I finally left. One of the smartest moves I've ever made.

2.I have always loved to sing and there are so many songs that are truly like a soundtrack to my life. I actually had a chance to join a local country band at 18 and declined because I wanted to move back home to Georgia. What might've been....? Nah, I think about what might not have been and that's enough to know I made the right choice. And, I'm still young, right? Maybe my big break is right around the corner....um, yeah-break my leg maybe :)

3.As E was saying the other day, I frequently burst into song. All it takes is one word. Any word, really. And there I go. My kids think it's a sure sign that I'm nuts............ "I'm a nut. In a hut. Stole an apple off the tree. So what?!" And there I go.......

4.As a little girl I used to say I wanted to have LOTS of kids, bio and adopted. My family told me that would change as I grew up. I guess some things never do change :) I also used to keep every one of my baby dolls in my bed at night. I didn't want any of them to feel left out. Yes, even my mother thought I was strange!

5.I am terrified of camel crickets* and used to call them "demon bugs". I swear they try to attack me every time they see me and a couple have even crawled up my pants legs! EWWWW!! (see pic below)Oh yeah, and chased me screaming out of my own bathroom. TWICE!

6.I was a foster child in the state of Florida about 30 years ago. I always wonder who my foster parents were and how they may have shaped my life and I just don't realize it. My brother and I were eventually returned home to our mom.

7.I have been to Jamaica twice, but don't think I could go back for a vacation. I went both times on missions trips and loved the island and the people. If I go back it would have to be to be among the real people of Jamaica, not in a resort. It just wouldn't be the same.

Now to tag back:

1.Faith
2.Lauren
3.Melissa
4.Wendy
5.Minnie
6.Whitney
7.Melissa B-Love her, but she's private for now :)
*I found this pic online, but the ones I find in my house look just like this. Maybe bigger.....especially when they're trying to jump on my face, they look much bigger....just sayin'.

Dear Little Baby Snake,

Just because you are only about 4 inches long does not mean that it's ok for you to crawl across my foot. Sheesh, I can STILL feel your cold, weird flesh.....eeehwyeh..... on my poor toes. They along with the rest of me are traumatized and now the yard will be taken over completely by weeds! I know I should've been wearing real shoes to work in the garden but I'm too lazy to put them on once I decide I need to get outside. Plus, I like to be barefoot. Can't you respect that?

I'm just sayin', next time you see me out there please turn and wriggle the other way, and I'll try not to scream. Then my boys won't come runnin' outta the house like Rambo trying to take down a warlord. And the few flowers I have left will live to come back next year.

Thanks mucho,
Melissa
